The phrase “state of play” is an expression referring to the way things are in any given moment. The “state of play,” in short, is the situation. It is also the phrase that Theatre Pioneer Viola Spolin used to describe the state of clear creative focus and relaxed readiness that allows theatre artists to explore an unfamiliar environment and tackle challenging circumstances with openness and authenticity. It is a way of creatively embracing the unknown—that is our mission. Performed by students ages 14-18
SPOON RIVER Adapted by Jason Pizzarello from The Spoon River Anthology by Edgar Lee Masters
The denizens of a small town in the American Midwest address the audience from beyond the grave in this contemporary adaptation of poet Edgar Lee Masters' most famous collection. Some fixate on a pivotal moment or a treasured relationship. Some of their stories brim with regret, others radiate gratitude or burst with humor. Some are devastating. All of Spoon River's residents, in the end, remind us that some human bonds are unbreakable. Performed by students ages 13-18
