The Winnipesaukee Playhouse Education Department's
INTERN COMPANY
for college students and early career professionals

Overview

The Winnipesaukee Playhouse offers arts management and theatrical production internships for college students and early career professionals during the summer season. Scheduling of days and hours is somewhat flexible, but Intern Company applicants should be available a minimum of three weeks between May 15th and September 10th. Ideally, the weeks would be consecutive, but this is not a requirement. At the discretion of the intern and supervising staff, internships may exceed three weeks.

Interns work directly with Playhouse senior staff. The internship experience is a flexible one and depends mostly on the needs of the intern. Members of the Winnipesaukee Playhouse Intern Company work with the Education Department to develop specific educational goals. Work assignments, mentorship, and schedules are determined by those goals. They meet with Education staff regularly to check in on progress toward goals.

All summer internships are unpaid, though housing is provided. If interested, interns may apply separately to work in the Playhouse box office for an hourly wage. These hours would be on top of the intern schedule. Acceptance into the Intern Company does not guarantee that the intern will be hired in the box office, but preference will be given to qualified intern candidates with acceptable availability over other box office candidates. The Winnipesaukee Playhouse Education Department is fully prepared to work with college internship offices and theatre departments to provide any and all documentation needed for interns to receive college credit.

Theatrical Production Internships

Arts Management Internships

Stage Management: Interns will work with the summer production stage manager. They will observe and assist in rehearsals, technical rehearsals, and performances.

Carpentry: Interns will work with Technical Director Andrew Stuart. They will observe and assist in scenic builds, load-ins, and strikes. They will have the opportunity to learn from professional, skilled designers and carpenters.

General Production: If a diverse experience is most conducive to meeting an intern’s educational goals, they will be able to follow a schedule that has them spending time in several relevant production departments: scenic, electrics, stage management, props, costumes, and more.

Marketing: Interns will work with Marketing Director Lesley Pankhurst. They will observe and assist on print, social media, and other promotional campaigns for the summer season and will have opportunities to observe and discuss further reaching marketing plans.

Education: Interns will work with Education Director Timothy L’Ecuyer. They will observe and assist in planning and implementation of summer educational programming including dramaturgical research, events for all ages, and summer theatre camp.

Hybrid: Interns follow a schedule that includes some combination of the above, according to their educational goals.
