Winnipesaukee Playhouse Education Department
Summer Musical Theatre Intensive
Students ages 14-19 (entering grades 9-12 and 2021 High School Graduates)
Please note: 2020 has been a year of adaptation and flexibility. In that spirit, it's important to note that we do not yet know what, if any, COVID-19 protocols will still be necessary by July of 2021. Anyone registering for a summer program should assume that the program will include some amount of mask wearing, social distancing, health screenings, temperature checks, and all of the other things we have all come to associate with safer behaviors designed to slow the spread of the pandemic. We will announce those details as they become available and with plenty of notice before programming begins.
Carolyn Kirsch, Chair of Musical Theatre
We are delighted to announce that Carolyn Kirsch will lead a special Summer Musical Theatre Intensive for high school students this summer. Carolyn Kirsch appeared in fifteen Broadway productions, including the original company of A Chorus Line; as such, she was part of the process that created this landmark musical. In her twenty-one years of performing in New York City, she worked extensively for Michael Bennett (the creator of A Chorus Line) and Bob Fosse. For Mr. Fosse, she appeared in both the First National and Broadway companies of How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying, Sweet Charity, and she toured with the First National Company of Chicago, in which she played Velma Kelly.

The Program
Students will work closely with Ms. Kirsch and a music director to follow a highly focused curriculum of musical theatre training. Each week will also include a six-day master class taught by an industry professional--one in acting, one in music, and one in dance. Additionally, students will participate in Q&A sessions with professional musical theatre actors, sit in on a professional technical rehearsal, and see the Winnipesaukee Playhouse Professional Company productions. This rigorous program is six full days per week (half days on Saturdays, Sundays off) for three weeks, July 26th – August 14th. See the master schedule for details.
This program is intended for students who have some theatre experience already and is designed to be rigorous. It is not for beginners.
